Avoid hanging your handmade Pichwai embroidery in direct sunlight. UV exposure slowly fades silk dyes and dulls gold thread. Ideal placement is a wall that receives soft, indirect light. Living rooms, drawing rooms, entryways, and pooja rooms are perfect.
Silk, zardozi, and beadwork are sensitive to high humidity. In coastal cities like Mumbai, Chennai, or Goa, use a dehumidifier during monsoon or ensure the artwork is displayed in a well-ventilated room to prevent moisture damage.
Dust your Pichwai embroidery every 15 to 30 days using a soft, dry, natural-bristle brush (a clean makeup brush or a soft paint brush works beautifully). Always brush gently in one direction. Never use water, wet cloth, or any chemical cleaner on the embroidery.
If you need to move the artwork, always hold it by the frame, never by the silk or embroidered surface. The oils in your fingertips can leave marks on gold zari and pearls over time. Wear cotton gloves for extra protection.
If you ever need to store your Pichwai embroidery, wrap it in acid-free tissue and store it flat in a dry, cool, dark place, away from insects and moisture. Include natural moth repellents like neem leaves or cloves. Never fold the artwork.
